Juan Carlos Mestre was born in Leon, France. Juan is a renowned Spanish poet, essayist, and graphic artist from Villafranca del Bierzo, León. He is celebrated for a body of work that often blends surrealism with social memory, exploring themes of exile and the everyday. He studied at the University of Barcelona. Mestre has published over twenty-five books of poetry. His notable awards include the National Poetry Prize (2008) for La Casa Roja, the Jaen de Poesia Prize (1999) for La Tumba de Keats, and the Adonais Poetry Prize (1986) for Antífona del Otoño en el Valle del Bierzo.
